Happy New Year to Our Residents, Visitors and Friends!

2013 was a prosperous year in Mexico Beach and we ended the year with a spectacular “Welcome” to 2014 on New Year’s Eve. We had a large number of revelers at the various Celebrate Twice events, and they took advantage of our complimentary trolley service. We are happy to report that the night’s festivities kept everyone safe and there were no reported incidents. The fireworks show from the City Pier at midnight was well received, and we’re all looking forward to a prosperous 2014.

What’s New in Mexico Beach

We have a different kind of snowbird visiting Mexico Beach. We’re proud of the bald eagle that has been spotted in our neighborhood. If you keep your camera handy, you might get a chance to get his picture like Dennis from Virginia was able to do.

And the Winner Is...

Last month we gave away a cookbook written by the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association. Congratulations to Billy Rhodes from Pinson, Alabama. Your new cookbook is in the mail!

Mexico Beach Giveaway

This month we are giving away a basket of Mexico Beach “goodies,” including a gift certificate, a Mexico Beach T-shirt and a jar of Killer Seafood Simmerin’ Sauce. If you would like to put your name in the hat, send an e-mail to [email protected]. The winner will be announced in the February newsletter.

Meet Mexico Beach

This month we would like to introduce you to Adrian Welle, who joined the city staff as the new city clerk. Originally from Pierz, Minnesota, he has spent his career in city government and has several years of experience. Adrian is a graduate of St. Cloud State University and a recovering Minnesota Vikings fan! The next time you’re in City Hall, stop and say hello to Adrian.

Weddings on the Beach

Mexico Beach is the perfect place to say “I Do”! For more information on weddings or vow renewal ceremonies on the beach, visit mexicobeach.com.

Elaine & Michael
This month we congratulate Elaine and Michael, who came from Indiana to our beach for their wedding. The weather was good and the wedding was beach casual. Elaine was a beautiful bride. Congratulations, Elaine and Mike!

Thoughts for the Month

With the New Year, we think of our resolutions and what will happen in this year. We could ask college professors—or fortune tellers—but we think the best place to see the next year is in fortune cookies. So, we’ve collected a few quotes that were in cookies—and a few that should be in cookies!

Sayings in fortune cookies:

  • A closed mouth gathers no feet
  • A conclusion is simply the place where you got tired of thinking
  • A cynic is only a frustrated optimist
  • A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind, and won’t change the subject
  • Do not mistake temptation for opportunity
  • The world may be your oyster, but it doesn’t mean you’ll get its pearl
  • Never forget a friend, especially if he owes you money
  • Never wear your best pants when you go to fight for freedom
  • That wasn’t chicken
  • There is no mistake as great as that of being always right

Sayings that should be in fortune cookies:

  • Accept that some days you’re the pigeon, and some days you’re the statue
  • Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them
  • Don’t fry bacon in the nude
  • Don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things
  • If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door
  • The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age
  • When everything’s coming your way, you’re in the wrong lane
