Mexico Beach Fishing Report

MBARA Kingfish Tournament Winners
On August 24, 2013, the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association had their 17th Annual Kingfish Tournament. We had a total of 139 boats with some anglers coming from as far away as Kentucky and Louisiana; the majority of the entrants were from Georgia.

The winning kingfish weighed 43.95 pounds and was caught by Jack Hittinger. Jim Rentz caught the winning wahoo, which weighed in at 23.05 lbs. Pictured (L–R) above are the winners with crew and Miss Kingfish:

· Miss Kingfish (Taylor Gallagher)

Weddings on the Beach

Last month we sponsored a weekend giveaway for a couple wanting to renew their wedding vows on the beach. Our winners were Eric and Tracy Lundgaard from Brownsburg, Indiana. They renewed their vows after over 25 years of marriage. We also had two other ceremonies:

Nicole & Mark
Nicole and Mark came from South Georgia to tie the knot on the pier with a picturesque background of the Gulf of Mexico.

Sharon & Keith
They were joined by their friends Sharon and Keith, who also celebrated with a vow renewal on the pier. Congratulations everyone!

Mexico Beach is the perfect place to say “I Do”! For more information on weddings or vow renewal ceremonies on the beach, visit mexicobeach.com.

Recipe of the Month

Pecan-Crusted Trout with Orange Sauce
We thank Dena Sapp for sharing this delicious fish recipe from the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association cookbook.

INGREDIENTS
8 trout fillets, skinned
2 cups finely chopped pecans, toasted
1 tsp. pepper
1 cup all-purpose flour
2½ tsp. salt
1 cup butter
Orange sauce (recipe follows)
Garnish: Toasted pecan halves

DIRECTIONS
Microwave butter in a 2-cup microwavable cup on high 1 to 2 minutes. Set aside. Stir together toasted pecans, flour, salt, and pepper. Dredge fillets in mixture. Heat half of the butter in a large skillet; fry half of fillets 1½ to 2 minutes on each side or until fish flakes with fork. Repeat procedure with remaining butter and fillets. Serve with orange sauce. Garnish, if desired.

ORANGE SAUCE
Orange Sauce
4 cups fresh orange juice
½ tsp. salt
1 tbsp. olive oil
½ tsp. pepper

DIRECTIONS
Bring juice to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes or until reduced to 1 cup. Whisk in remaining ingredients. Serve with fillets.

Thoughts for the Month

“Zen” teachings (or just good practical advice).

Always remember you're unique. Just like everyone else.

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably well worth it.

Good judgment comes from bad experience—and most of that comes from bad judgment.

A closed mouth gathers no foot.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
